The Arch-Enemies of Christian Society

The above blog heading was the title of a short comment by Franz Pieper in 1896:
The Arch-Enemies of Christian Society.
A spiritual congress took place in Reims with the consent of three archbishops, and was attended by 700 priests.  In the main speech of a canon, the following were called as the dangers which threaten Christian society: The revival of paganism, the Jews, Freemasonry, and socialism. –  There is omitted the arch-enemy of Christian society, the papacy.  —  Franz Pieper.  (From Lehre und Wehre, vol. 42, page 318)
